Welcome to our digital tour

Welcome to our digital tour

The doors to IES Solna will open in August 2021. The school is located in the area known as Ingenting and work has started to transform the building into a first class, modern school, with everything required to offer students the ideal learning environment. In a few years, the school will have four classes in each year – from grade four to year nine.

Are you curious what life is like at IES? Do take the time to do a digital tour in some of our other schools. Here you may find several films which we hope will provide you with insight of what we, our students and their parents consider to be important in creating a good school.

Principal Announcement

Dear all,

Firstly, I am both proud and excited to introduce myself to you having been appointed as the founding Principal of Internationella Engelska in Solna. Together with highly skilled, dedicated and engaged staff, I look forward to creating a school in Solna that fully embodies the IES ethos. My aim is to establish and nurture a safe and calm environment where high quality, bilingual teaching and learning can flourish.  In addition, as a Solna resident myself, I feel an extra responsibility in ensuring that those families who choose to send their children to IES Solna and become part of the wider IES community get access to the best possible bilingual education that is available.

Since qualifying to teach in the UK, I have dedicated my career to being an educator, initially as a Physical Education teacher, and then in various leadership positions. After a number of years working in Birmingham, I moved to Sweden with my family and since then, I have worked within the IES organization for ten years, both at compulsory school and in gymnasium.  Having been on the leadership team at Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet in Södermalm, I continued my IES journey as part of the founding team at IES Årsta when it opened in 2017.  Whilst I have worked mainly as an Assistant Principal, I also enjoyed the opportunity to be Acting Principal at IES Årsta during the academic year 2019 - 2020.

As an experienced IES educator, I am confident that setting high expectations for students and having high standards for staff is the basis upon which to build opportunities for success at all levels.  Furthermore, I believe that developing a disciplined environment where nurturing aspects of ‘Tough Love’ are paramount to students having the chance to really fulfil their potential.  This is something that will be incorporated into our daily life in school in order to build a cohesive, disciplined and pleasant atmosphere in all the classrooms and around the school. In addition to these academic opportunities, our school will also offer a range of extra-curricular activities in a variety of subjects as well as in sport and music.

While 2020 has presented us all with challenges that we could not have imagined, I believe the need for a calm, safe and nurturing learning environment for our young people is now stronger than ever. Considering this, I look forward to meeting all of our new students and their families at IES Solna in the very near future so we can start to turn the vision into a reality.

From August 2021 families in Solna and the local area will be able to send their children to learn at a new bilingual school.

Internationella Engelska Skolan will open the school in August 2021 in the area known as Ingenting.

The school will accommodate approximately 770 students when full, with four classes in each grade from 4–9. However, initially the school will be smaller, and the number of classes in each year-group during the school’s first year will be decided based on where the interest is strongest.  There will not be a grade 9 during the first year as few families tend to wish to move a child in the final year of compulsory education as this can be a large adjustment.

Anna Sörelius Nordenborg, CEO of Internationella Engelska Skolan, said: “We are delighted to open IES Solna which will welcome its first students in August 2021. Solna municipality is very supportive of IES opening in this area, where many families live but where until now few school places have been available. This school will help to fill a local need while also welcoming students from throughout Stockholm. We are proud of the trust placed in us and we look forward to contributing to the municipality with a high quality school with an international profile."

Work has started to transforming the building into a first class, modern school, with everything required to offer students the ideal learning environment.

We are also working to recruit a principal who will hand-pick outstanding teachers from Sweden and abroad, as they build their team.

Interested families are already able to place themselves in the queue for the school by visiting and filling out the form.  Students for each year-group will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

We are planning to hold an information evening this autumn if this is possible under government guidelines.
